WHEN I ARRIVED

 EYES OPEN WIDE

When I arrived

I started afresh

dreams and aspirations

rivaled the best

.

At thirteen years

an alter-boy to be

the number thirteen

no significance to me

The Butterfly

At eighteen years

eyes opened you see

I joined the U.S. Navy

to keep the world free

.

At twenty-four years

I was honorably discharged

from my obligation to America

and the rest of the world at large

.

Off to college I’ll go

for a sweet education

with the world as my oyster

sure beats vegetatin’

.

Jefferson espoused revolution

while talking directly to me

overthrow the bastions of Government

they are keeping me from being free

The Dance

So I joined S.D.S.

and then the Weathermen

to shun the shackles of tyranny

my speech was suffering suppression

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

Socialism looks really good

to the masses yearning to be free

a collective good for everyone

Wow!  Is this the way it should be

But then my eyes were opened wide

early in April of ninety-five

terrorism has come to the land

I don’t want to be part of that band

scan0022

Every time the experiment was tried

only allowed the Masters to hide

powerful dictatorial juices run swift

abject justice is their only gift

.

A reduction in the living standards

surely must come to all

thus causing the American citizen

to brace for the inevitable fall

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

Communism and collective bargaining

these concepts always fail

the freedom enjoyed by Americans

is a concept that does not pail

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

The terrorist is but a coward

destruction the only plan

no concept of how to compromise

thinking they are the chosen clan

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

You say you want a revolution

that this is your only play

but have you thought of what you’ll get

when you destroy your freedom today

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

Revolt today if you must

but not  for one religious clan

remember your cause must be just

for everyone throughout the land

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

Sing the volley of freedom

Raise your voice on high

enjoying all of the benefits

will never make you sigh

The Statue of Liberty

Don’t you be nonchalant today

suppress the terrorist intent

hearts filled with compassion

will keep the world content

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

Don’t ever take for granted

keep your eye upon the land

wherever freedoms are suppressed

You must take a stand

No citizen of America

living in this fine land

should ever take for granted

their freedoms are at hand

About Sailor

Yup, it's me! The author of all you read here (except for the comments of course). Having been asked to write a short article for "About Yourself", I was forced to labor (for a moment-or-two), upon what eloquent words I might use to explain myself. ................................................................................................................ This simple thought process yielded an even simpler solution. You need but read the words I have published here. All the writings (except for the Comments), are copyrighted ©, the moment the "post" is digitized and made available to the world (WWW) by the servers at namecheap, the best Hosting service you'll ever need. http://www.namecheap.com?aff=15525 Please read: "Proprietary Rights". ............................................................................................................. Now, to continue with "About Me". I am sure you will find a few of my views embedded within my poems, and, if I would quit procrastinating, within the chapters of my future novels. .............................................................................................................. I would ask you all to subscribe to "RANDOM THOUGHTS"
